NGO Accelerator Programme

The NGO Accelerator Programme aims to help existing NGOs improve operations, establish management “best practices”, structure and scale up to become more efficient and self-sustaining.

The one year accelerator programme is designed to train, coach and empower existing social organisations in Malaysia who want to take their organisation to the next level to deliver deeper impact to their target communities.

The NGO Accelerator programme caters to the unique needs of social organisations, from the content of the programme to how it is carried out. The programme brings together leaders of social organisations alongside experts in fields relevant to them to exchange knowledge and information in an engaging and effective way.

The programme takes place in two phases: the 8-month active learning phase and the 4 month implementation phase. This year, 10 selected NGOs will be participating in the programme.

 Active Learning Phase

During the 8 months, participants from the 10 selected NGOs take part in three components of this phase: the Master Classes, action coaching and community development sessions.

  •  Master Classes: There are 6 Master Classes that focus on themes such as social innovation, governance, sustainability and financial management. Master classes are one day classes and are held once every other month on Saturdays.
  • Action coaching sessions: Each organisation will be matched with a coach that will be dedicated to working with them to ensure that they are on track to fulfilling the goals that they have set for themselves. Coaching sessions can happen in person at any convenient location, or even through Skype if the organisation or coach are unable to meet in person
  • Community development sessions: Sessions designed for the participants to share their learnings with other participants from the programme, as well as forums that connect the participants to other industry experts to discuss social sector issues.

 Implementation phase

During this 4 month period organisations continue to implement, test and evaluate the action plans that they have developed and carried out during the first phase of the programme. Participants will continue to be monitored and guided by the Foundation during this period.

Selected participants of the accelerator stand a chance to be retained for a second year of partnership with the Hong Leong Foundation dependent on how they perform in their first year of acceleration. This second year will consist of continued support and project funding.

Applications for the first NGO Accelerator Programme are now closed. You can still find out more about our programme through our FAQ page, and stay updated by liking our Facebook page.

The NGO Accelerator Programme is a joint effort between the Hong Leong Foundation and Scope Group, and is fully funded by the Hong Leong Foundation.
